Pricing app for a residential contractor

Pricing used to mean paging through a bound notebook. Now it comes out of an app the team keeps up to date.

The business problem

A consulting firm that works with home service companies hired me to help one of its clients, a residential contractor.

At that company, a team's whole job was paging through a bound notebook of prices and formulas. It was slow and painful, so it got put off. The people in the field waited on the answers.

What needed to change

Pricing had to come out of the notebook and into something fast. The people who own pricing needed to manage the formulas and rules themselves, including the old cases.

What I did

I built a pricing app that took in the whole notebook. People manage the price formulas and pricing rules by role, so the old cases still work and new pricing goes in cleanly.

The app gives the number. What to recommend is still up to the person in the house.

What changed

The team gets prices from the app now instead of paging through the notebook. The people who own pricing keep it current themselves.

Talk it through with me.

Bring the problem, even if it's still fuzzy. We'll talk about what's going on, what might be behind it, and whether I'm the right person to help. If I'm not, I'll tell you.
